Warhammer 40k – New contract working on the Games Workshop IP
Childhood goal achieved
Since about the age of 10 I’ve been a fan of the Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy universe. I collected miniatures into my teens, and still have loads and have recently revisited the hobby and picked up some sets to play with friends too.
I distinctly remember telling my folks I wanted to work for Games Workshop when I was grown up. I loved it that much.
I’m really pleased to announce that I am now a freelance illustrator working on the licensed IP. I never thought it would be drawing characters, places and cool artefacts for the franchise.
Cubicle 7
Cubicle 7 is a publisher of RPG games and modules. They are licensed to produce all the Gamesworkshop RPG games. It’s Cubicle 7 I’m now receiving regular work from as a freelance illustrator and cartographer on the very exclusive Warhammer IP. I am so over the moon about it. I’m not sure many licensed IPs I could work for could trump this. I try to explain it like, imagine you were a marvel fan. Like you grew up reading all the comics. Then one day someone told you it’s your job to draw Wolverine and the Hulk. This is the same feeling for me.
Kaptin Slystabba
Below is Kaptin Slystabba, an Ork Kommando. He’s pretty menacing, looking over the floor of an enemy structure he’s infiltrated. This was my first commissioned illustration piece. I’m really pleased with the final render.
Working with such a strict IP was challenging, with real emphasis on getting anatomy of their particular race spot on. I’ve never appreciated a lot of the nuances I have enjoyed over the years until now. As Warhammer Fantasy Orcs were by far my biggest collection as a kid. This pretty much ticked the holy grail box for me, in terms of art contracts.
Loved doing the lighting on this. I wanted the feeling of the fires of industry going on below, as the stark moon light floods in through skylights.
I have more contracts for the Warhammer IP I’m working on right now, and I’ll be sure to continue to post them as they are published and I’m given the permission to let them loose in the public sphere!
A bit about me, the illustrator:
I’m Jamie, I am an illustrator, graphic designer, business owner and fantasy geek. I live and work in Sussex, UK.
I love working on fiction book covers and games in the broad genre I like to call “Escapism”… I’m particularly a massive fantasy fan, but love sci-fi and horror too. I’ve been working professionally on video games, books and board games since 2010 and even published my own successful board game: Hero Master: An Epic Game of Epic FailsĀ back in 2018.
I achieved my lifelong dream of regularly working on illustration for the Warhammer 40k IP in 2021, and can’t wait for the next challenge to arise. Shout me if you need me, you can fill in a few details to get the ball rolling, but following the link below.
