Fantasy monster concept
I was recently commissioned by regular client, Lance Vangundy to create some of the incredible fantasy monster illustrations. His epic fantasy series, The Rune Fire Cycle, has allowed us to flesh out the visuals, and really build a world around the reader.
This one is the Umbral. An underground dwelling creature that is a mindless killer. Terrifying!
I have worked with Lance over a couple of years now and we’ve developed a real body of work together. In some of my previous posts I’ve shown a lot more of the monster concepts I’ve done. I’ve shown the character profile pieces and even maps. I thought it was high time I show off the covers again, See them below.

I love my job. I’ve always wanted to be an artist working on fantasy settings, creating worlds that give people real escapism and suspend their disbelief.
