Miniature painter – Ashenhold Art
Benjamin Porter
Benjamin Porter is a miniature painter I’ve known in the tabletop games industry for a while. I’ve followed his work, and actually been interview on his tabletop game podcast in the past.
But having seen him go full time, professional miniature painter has been fantastic to watch. The incredible detail he puts into his painting and final product he delivers to his clients is really inspiring, and translates a lot to the illustration work I do!
You can follow Benjamin too on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and his website.
The Logo
Benjamin had a good idea on how he wanted his logo to look. He love dwarves in fantasy tropes, so we opted for a very dwarven forge. I feel like his painting table is like a bit of a forge, where he creates, so it fit really well. We went backwards and forwards on a couple of sketches, but settled on something that would emanate a really nice warm glow.
I offered him a choice of a vector or bitmap logo, and he wanted something flexible so we settled on vector. This was great for me, as I’m beginning to get a lot more adventurous with vector art, ever since I began working for Meeple Source. Where I work in vector designing their meeples.
I did a bit of texturing on the final product on some of the outer stone pieces to make it weathered, this is something I could still do with vector layers, which was a cool discovery. It means this image can be stretched to any size without losing the integrity of the edges.
A bit about me, the illustrator:
I’m Jamie, I am an illustrator, graphic designer, business owner and fantasy geek. I live and work in Sussex, UK.
I love working on fiction book covers and games in the broad genre I like to call “Escapism”… I’m particularly a massive fantasy fan, but love sci-fi and horror too. I’ve been working professionally on video games, books and board games since 2010 and even published my own successful board game: Hero Master: An Epic Game of Epic Fails back in 2018.
I achieved my lifelong dream of regularly working on illustration for the Warhammer 40k IP in 2021, and can’t wait for the next challenge to arise. Shout me if you need me, you can fill in a few details to get the ball rolling, but following the link below.
