Nigerian fantasy art

It’s not often something completely new seems to stumble into my weekly planner, but I was so pleased to receive the email for this Nigerian fantasy art project. Adangara: Legend of the Oris is a novel by Nigerian author Avosuahi S. Bello.

The story has some familiar fantasy tropes, but the Nigerian setting just adds so much amazing scope for different cultural references. I had to ask a lot of questions being so used to European fantasy settings, but this was so cool, using traditional colours and costume in many of the illustrations we worked on.

Fun fact: I used photos of the author’s  family for reference when creating the characters.
