A unique brief – dragon romance novel

Dragon romance book cover by The Noble Artist, commissioned by Tim Baird. Two dragons embrace romantically. Book called the dragon in the lighthouse.

Dragon romance you say…?

I did say dragon romance. And not shapeshifting people, turning into dragons who are somewhat amorous. I mean actual dragon relationships… This was a really fun and unique brief to work on. I’ve worked with author Tim Baird on a children’s story he wrote called Goodnight Phobos, Goodnight Deimos, but I knew that Tim also had written fantasy novels. So I was very pleased when he suggested this interesting concept of dragon romance literature!

Fabio

Tim asked me to research the Fabio romance covers of old for inspiration. It was my first direct exposure to Fabio, subconsciously, I’ve seen them, I know who Fabio is. But consciously I had no idea that there was one muse who was the inspiration for loads of romance novels and covers. What an accolade for someone to have!

So our red dragon here is channeling is inner Fabio… I decided to compliment the scene with some nice golden hour soft lighting. I’m pleased with how the final product presents as a homage to the old romance novels with Fabio.

I love my job. I’ve always wanted to be an artist working on fantasy settings, creating worlds that give people real escapism and suspend their disbelief. One of the things I absolutely love though, is the interaction with people who are following along with what I’m doing. Hearing comments, and seeing my work make it’s way around the world makes me so happy!
