That’s Wizard’s successful board game launch

I pride myself on my artwork. So it won’t be a surprise that I watch all projects I’m involved in closely. I just love it when they smash their targets out of the water. It’s great for both me and my prospective clients to see a successful board game launch, in such a competitive environment.
I’ve been working on That’s Wizard for years now, and it’s my latest success story. Well done to the team at Manaworks Games, and a special shout out to M. Sorrentino who has become a close friend as well as someone I work with!
Kickstarter smash
Manaworks smashed their threshold for success. The Kickstarter campaign for the game ended up being 440% funded and hit it’s 100% in just two hours. The final number was $26k raised, and these numbers are just US backers!!! This is such an incredible result. I can’t wait to see what they do next.
Tell me more about it!
From Manaworks Games:
That’s Wizard is a fast-paced, strategic duel of simultaneous action and custom spellbook building, featuring stunning artwork from The Noble Artist. Try the game, get a copy at this year’s Pax Unplugged (booth 4056)
That’s right folks, they’re at Pax Unplugged. If you’re going along make sure to stop by the booth and say I sent you!

How to run a successful Kickstarter?
The reason why Manaworks Games latest Kickstarter result impresses me so much is because simply put… Kickstarter is hard. Really hard.
It’s no longer the ‘back of a napkin’ idea that might become a reality. A more discerning user base now expects a much more polished product proof before they want to part with their hard earned cash. In most cases, tabletop games end up getting fully prepared and funded by the indie publishers. Art, hired help, prototypes, they’re not cheap! Doing it half-assed probably spells failure, so you either go all in, or all out…
Soon I’d like to write a blog on my own experiences, from designing, illustrating and publishing my own game, to helping others achieve their own success. And even review some of the more disappointing results over the years. In the meantime, if you are considering it… This blog helped me loads at the time, and still stands up incredibly well today. It’s Kickstarter Lessons by Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier games, if you haven’t heard of him, you will have heard of his games… Wingspan and Scythe to name two of my favourites.
Check it out here.

Hi I’m Jamie!
I work on fantasy and sci-fi maps for various clients from authors to game publishers. I have had some great clients working on both established IPs and new settings. If you’re looking for a fantasy artist, feel free to snoop through my illustration portfolio or head straight over to contact me for work. You’ll find my email address and some handy forms which guide you through some of the starting info I’ll need to be able to quote for you. Typically I’m booked up a month ahead of time, but do drop me a line if you have anything time sensitive. Sometimes I’m able to move things around in a pinch. Hope to hear from you!
