Sci-Fi card art – Aetherial War Characters

Sci-fi card art, the grunts from Aetherial War series

Nathan Doverspike commissioned a series of illustrations for his Aetherial War setting [see more here and here]. I’ve written about some of the more dangerous denizens of Nathan’s sci-fi setting, but this time it’s the rank and file, the grunts of the Aetherial War universe.

As an artist in the gaming industry, I know how important sci-fi card art is in immersing players in futuristic worlds and narratives. The vibrant visuals not only capture the imagination but also serve as a vital storytelling tool, and help to convey game mechanics at a single glance.

When designing games, mitigating downtime is key to the player experience. In visually stimulating worlds like sci-fi and fantasy, there’s room to really smash a great aesthetic. Sci-fi card art can really help with this by allowing quick visual cues, so that players aren’t scrutinising rules every time they draw a card.
